The art of actual deejay mixes (that is the blending of tracks containing music from different genres through turntable scratching) has come somewhat of a lost art in hip-hop. DJ Manipulator hopes to change that through his newest mix Studio Kinda Dusty 2. Manipulator went through the entire record store, cop records from across many different genres and the result is the mix you can listen to below. Some of the music is records you’ve heard your favorite artists sample and some is music you’ve never heard before, but none of it feels out of place. I’ll let Manipulator explain the mix and after that you can peep it. Make sure to let us know what you think in the comments section and check out Manipulator’s new site as well.
To DJ Manipulator, there’s nothing more inspiring than a trip to the record store. From the moment he steps in the store and starts flipping through the “New Arrivals” section the gems he comes across sets the tone for the rest of the digging session. Bouncing from the crates filled with funk and soul in the front to psych rock and international section in the back of the store each record he pulls takes him on a trip. This mix series is just a taste of that trip. The second installment of the “Studio Kinda Dusty” series is a continuation of sounds ranging from the familiar to the unknown. Take this mix as a push in the right direction leading you to go out on your on and get your fingers dusty. There’s gold in those stacks, ya just gotta find it.
