Okay… First I heard his interview on Hot 97. Then I listend to the album… Three major things I noticed… Thee very first thing I noticed… This album was put out for MONEY ONLY!!! There is no way in Hell you can sell one million copies of your music that fast. However allow me to explain how he did it… Social Media and Phones. Now in today’s world every phone can have an app. With Samsung holding over one million app users, to include andriod phone holders. The deal was made… Samsung brought one million copies of the album, made an app, and released it to samsung phone holders, around the world. Now Once the app was downloaded one million times, the app started to fk up… Trust me try downloading that app now. Moving forward, after reading about Jay-z’s first attempt at Business (His clothing line) he didn’t do so well, then he moved into another form of Business (the 40/40 clubs) and again didn’t do so well. However I still give him respect in trying… Moving forward he noticed something in all this.. I believe Jay-Z discovered that people will buy into anything he does, Simply because he is Jay-Z. (Kayne Shrug). Then he get’s it.. “I’m the music man, so let me just stick to what I know, and do music”. So He does just that. NBA 2k, The Great Gatsby Movie, etc… Then he get’s another strike of enlightment and say “Well if I’m sticking to what I know, and I know a great deal about sports let try my hand in Co-Owning a basketball team”. Success… But if you know anything about business you will know that you must have your money on hand to pay for your half of that team. I don’t know if he had the money or he played his wild card.. However, his dealing with this Holy Grail album, and the first million copies brought by Samsung, was to put the money back into his pockets or to pay for his half of those Brooklyn Nets. So in all.. The album was kool.. It’s like winning a prize from that “Claw Machine” in the mall or at a carnival. lol.
The title Magna Carta Holy Grail was more about himself than the people. Carta is a play on words with his last name, which implies the Great Carter. And explicitly written in the charter is about no men being enslaved, imprisoned, etc… which he is more talking about his rap career compared to other rappers, rather than talking to the people. Holy Grail I guess implies wanting something more than money…since he obviously has plenty of, but he still sucked with it.
He recontextualized the charter, and honestly in my opinion, failed horribly with it.
Note: @MykeCTown – dude calls himself the king, which is fitting because like most kings, they fail to serve the people benevolently.
