Another one of my endeavors again not just this year, but in my coverage on Dead End Hip Hop in general is give you guys more international artists. UK hip-hop artist Ichokas has been putting in work and grinding for a couple years now. Through demos, collaborations and more Icho has evolved into his next form and with it comes the opus “Dreams In Darkness”.
For a six track project Ichokas’ is making a poignant statement as a lyricist, a producer and as the future for what’s to come in hip-hop. No other hands touched this project except for his, Icho wrote all the lyrics and even went a step further to produce the entire EP. You’re getting all of Ichokas’ essence in “Dreams In Darkness”.
Ichokas has sharpened his sword on here and brings with it, tons of experience, baggage, concerns and dreams and more. From the opening “Intro” all the way to the staggering “Don’t Die On Me” Ichokas leaves no words wasted, no stone left unturned. This is a dark project, there’s no doubt about that, however Ichokas makes sure to make a statement on hip-hop with “About The Money”. On “I Feel Blessed Today” we the back and forth of “my life sucks, but I’m blessed regardless”. Icho’s passion radiates through this entire project.
My only gripe with the EP is there are some flow and cadence issues and the album could’ve stood just a bit more time in the engineering room. Other than those two factors, Ichokas is a bright light in an industry that is still afraid to put their emotions on a record or rather rarely respect those doing this. “Dreams In Darkness” honestly seems like the powder keg to get our UK hero going in 2018.
