On June 6th, Iamsu! will release his new mixtape, KILT 2. The tape, which will be available for free download exclusively through LiveMixtapes, is the first solo tape from Iamsu! since his breakout $uzy 6 $peed, a tape that delivered hits featuring Wiz Khalifa, Juvenile, and others, and the new tape also serves as an official follow-up to Iamsu!’s 2012 release KILT, which SPIN named as one of its top rap albums of the year. Today, Pitchfork premiered the first official single from KILT 2, “Rep That Gang.”
“Rep That Gang,” like the best of Iamsu!’s music, is built around heavy, knocking bass and slick, minimal synth work, this time coming courtesy of producer P-Lo, part of Iamsu!’s production crew, The Invasion. And for an artist that uses a great deal of his energy to let the world know about his HBK Gang crew, it’s fitting that Iamsu! uses the first offering from KILT 2 to touch on brotherhood. “It’s really a message of loyalty, a message of arrival,” Iamsu! says of the track. “I’m saying that we’re here, and this time it’s for the money.”
