I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, but keep getting too busy. I met Mr. Harris’s girlfriend at a Hopsin, Jarren Benton and Dizzy Wright show some time ago. She asked me if I would check out her boyfriend’s mixtape. Like I’ve said before, I do try to give people a chance as often as I can, so I agreed. She brought me a hard copy of Sorry I Was Mad and I put it in my bag. Now, I’ll be totally honest. I didn’t get around to listening to it for, I wanna say, a few weeks. Mainly because I assumed it wasn’t going to be all that good. (I know…I’m a presumptuous dick.) However, I did get around to listening to it recently and I have to admit that I was surprised.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think this mixtape is amazing or the next big thing. But here’s what I DO think. I think, for being so young, Happy Harris is doing some pretty interesting music. It sounds like he actually took time to analyze how he sounds on a track and put work into making his mixtape flow a certain way. On certain songs (like the first two) I think the way he flows is pretty dope. Sure, he has a ways to go with his music, but I think he’s at a better starting point than a lot of rappers I’ve heard who have a decade plus on him in terms of age. So I just felt like sharing this. Give the guy a listen. You may like it. You may hate it. Either way, just give him a shot.
