Jay-Z’s book, “Decoded“, dropped last month through Random House Inc. for $35 bucks for the book. Now, a digital version is available for the same price. It should be noted that Amazon and Barnes & Noble Inc. sells it for $9.99. Since dropping on Nov. 16, “Decoded” has sold 330,000 copies (I’m one of those numbers). If you think about this economy right now, that’s pretty big. People just don’t have $35 dollars to throw away. Random House has now developed an app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Gina Centrello, publisher of Random House Publishing Group states that they want to deliver content in any way the customer wants to read it. A 10-song version of the “Decoded” app is $9.99 and it comes with interactive lyrics. For $24.99 more, you can also receive 26 more songs with lyrics. You can listen to the songs in your iTunes library or buy them. This is only for Apple Devices. No Droid. Random House is also offering an enhanced e-book edition for $35 that has exclusive video interviews with Jay-Z and two additional videos. This is available on the Amazon Kindle app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
There you have it. One book. 5 choices. Book, e-book, app, expanded app and enhanced e-book.
