Big Sean Talks “Control” and Explains Why He Didn’t Change His Verse

August 14, 2013 by deadendhiphop

“When I heard [Kendrick’s] verse I wasn’t about to go back and change my verse—that’s cheating,” Big Sean tells VIBE. “That ain’t the way of an O.G. That ain’t how G’s move. I wanted to [release the song] for the culture of hip-hop as opposed to myself. “ – VIBE

Big Sean breaks down “Control” and talks about how the song came about, why he didn’t write his verse over, and how he got Jay Electronica on the track. The main point that Big Sean wanted to express was that he had the song and knew what was on it before it even dropped and he was ok with the response because he’s an OG. He also stated that for him, he’s excited to see the excitement in hip hop again. Watch the video above for his full interview with Vibe so you can have the story on how this all came together.
