For today’s solo album review, I talk about the latest album from Atmosphere, Southsiders. I’ve been meaning to review this for a while, but I wanted to give it enough listens to be able to give an informed opinion on it. I hope you enjoy!

You just made me go listen to Atmosphere, their album God Loves Ugly, consequently making me a Stan. Thanks CTown
Just a heads up, he does mention Mikey by name in an offhand way on Flicker with the line ‘the distance grew between Eye and I’ but you really have to know who he’s talking about to catch it. I liked your review and really agree with your sentiment that this is an album that will grow on you, even if Mrs. Interpret did catch my ear right away. For me, Ant’s beats really made this album what it is. I’m definitely one of those who misses the old sarcastic and bombastic Slug, but his new voice/point of view really works with the instrumentation and production Ant brought to the table. By the way, Slug’s tweet/shout-out brought me here.
i agree with almost everything you say
best songs: camera thief, world might not live through the night, star shaped heart, southsiders, fortunate, we aint gonna die today, january on lake street, let me know….. (hell and idiot are great too)
songs i didnt care for (dont care for yet?): i love you like a brother, kanye west.
one thing i do disagree with you on is how it doesnt immediately grab you attention/respect. i listened to it on pandora premieres at least 15 times (in the week it was available there before anywhere else) and at least 20 more times since then. i hesitate to say its my favorite atmosphere album, but i definitely liked it more than the last 3 on my first listen.
great review.
