If you are unfamiliar with the wild antics, numerous music videos, and the never ending mixtapes of Lil’ B, the self proclaimed “BasedGod” of hip hop, some may call you lucky or incredibly unfortunate (yes I am a Lil B fan!). Nevertheless, the recent trend of hip hop MCs dubbing themselves “gods” does not seem to be ending. Along with Lil’ B, Eminem (see Rap God off of MMLP2) and Kanye West (Yeezus) rappers are making it known that they are indeed gods among us fans (I mean mortals). But there is another among these which I have not yet named, and that is Roy French, the “FaceGOD.”
Roy French hails from Chicago and recently he has released his first mixtape titled FaceGOD respectively. If you are a fan of trap-influenced hip hop with some psychedlia (think third eye) thrown in for good measure then you will definitely enjoy this release. I’ll be honest…I’m not exactly sure who or what the FaceGOD is after my initial listens of this tape but I imagine, after listening to Roy French’s emceeing in subsequent listens, perhaps it will become more obvious to me.
I spoke briefly regarding the production here on FaceGOD and there is plenty from 3L$ producer BitoyBeatz who does a good job yet again (check out my review of 3L$’s BOUTTIME debut mixtape). And to finish off, my favorite track off of FaceGOD is definitely “iJuug” featuring Azur Rich. Hip hop fans of the third eye who seek higher learning and want to learn of the FaceGOD will enjoy this first tape by Roy French. You can stream and download the entire tape below via SoundCloud and you can follow Roy French HERE on Twitter.
