Souls of Mischief announced a new album with producer Adrian Younge entitled There Is Only Now. The album will be released on Adrian’s new record label Linear Labs on August 26th, 2014. There Is Only Now is a conceptual album inspired by a near-fatal incident involving A-Plus, Opio, Tajai, and Phesto. The album is set in 1994 and will serve as a bookend to two decades of music since their classic ’93 Til Infinity album.

There is Only Now is narrated by A Tribe Called Quest member Ali Shaheed Muhammed who will serve as a fictional DJ on a local Oakland radio station K-NOW. Busta Rhymes will appear on the album as the story’s villian, Womak, on “Womack’s Lament. Wiliam Hart, of the Delfonics, will also make an appearance on “Another Side of You.” Finally, we have Snoop Dogg dropping in on the title track “There Is Only Now” and Scarab of Living Legends drops a verse on “Stone Cold.”

Souls of Mischief’s There Is Only Now was recorded on 2″ analogue tape using only live instrumentation played mostly by Adriane Younge himself. The album was recorded together as a group in one room. The album was recorded in one take and Adrian did not use any computers or drum sampling.
