Nothing can stop Sean Price from dropping classic tunes. The underground MC who passed away at the age of 43 on August 8, 2015, is remembered as one of the greatest sounds to grace the underground, as one half of Heltah Skeltah, and also as a member of the collective Boot Camp Clik. To honor Price’s contribution to hip hop, Duck Down Records is releasing his fourth studio album Imperius Rex on August 8, marking the two-year anniversary of Price’s unfortunate passing. His lyrics were raw, and if you listen to his tracks it’s easy to see why he accumulated such an appreciative fanbase.
Price’s most recent album Songs In The Key Of Price was released in August 2015, also a posthumous release from the late Tyson of the Mic. Fans will no doubt be excited to hear some new work and I’m sure the support will be just as great as it was when he was still living, if not more so. Death is always unpleasant (although I can’t speak from personal experience), but at least artists can be immortalized and appreciated by what they gave the world long after they’ve departed planet Earth.
