The London-born singer, songwriter, and producer Joel Compass offers an impressive combination of undeniable talent and huge commercial appeal. His latest track, “Astronaut,” got the Ghost Loft treatment this week, and now you can take it in. It’s got all of Ghost Loft’s trademarks – those spacey synths most especially. And don’t worry, it’s still got that awesome falsetto courtesy of Joel Compass.

He might be on a very British label, but Joel has more in common with American singers like Miguel, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, D’Angelo and Maxwell than he does those in his own hood. At turns dark and disturbing, at others boldly witty and markedly candid, his is indie R&B at its best.
