Villains of the world beware, for Jaden Smith has donned the legendary batsuit he wore to the wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. In his new music video “Batman,” Jaden explores what it’s like to live as a burdened superhero. He says the word “Batman” quite a bit (in the same cadence as Drake and Future‘s “Jumpman”), perhaps to convey the idea that Batman is constantly the subject of media coverage and Jaden can relate, as he is the mysterious hero Twitter deserves. Or maybe it’s a song about Drake, although I don’t know enough about Drake or Batman to confidently make that claim. If anything, Jaden is more like The Riddler if you ask me.
Some fun facts: A copy of Frank Ocean‘s Boys Don’t Cry magazine can be found in one of the shots of Jaden talking on the phone. Tyler, The Creator is the driver of the white car shown in the video. The music video was directed by Moisés Arias (Rico from Hannah Montana).
I don’t know if this video is supposed to be a tribute to the late Adam West, but this wouldn’t be the first time Jaden Smith has confused me. “Batman” could be about living up to certain expectations despite wanting a normal life, or even about upholding a macho persona for a society that wants that. Who knows? Jaden knows. As long as he’s not hurting anyone I don’t mind what he does. Watch the video below and let us know if you would watch a Jaden Smith Batman flick. I would, but only if Jaden plays every villain and also Commissioner Gordon. And Batgirl.
