Eminem Did NOT Lip Sync on SNL

Eminem

Eminem preformed his new song “Berzerk”on Saturday Night Live on November 2nd, but a lot of fans are questioning how much “preforming” was actually going on. In fact, a lot of fans are not even questioning it, after seeing Mr. Mathers go on stage and rap to a backtrack and not hear anything coming out of his mic, many have become very quick to say that Eminem had lip synced the entire performance. And the reason I feel compelled to write an article about this is because I strongly disagree that he was lip syncing, and I haven’t seen any article in his defense, or bring up these points to this date.

This performance had nothing to do with lip syncing, but rather technical difficulties. At the very beginning of this performance, Em got on stage and began rapping. You don’t hear him, instead you hear a back track of what sounds like an exact rip from the album version of the song. Not only is it an exact rip but it is QUITE, throughout the whole song, you could barely hear it all, especially the  first verse. My first point here is that if Eminem went on stage intending to lip sync, there would have been no problem getting the volume to be as loud as he wanted. Not only that, but Eminem is a veteran in the hip hop game. Do you really think if he wanted to fool people into thinking he was actually singing, he wouldn’t think to not make the vocal track sound EXACTLY like the album version? No. Eminem is smarter than that, and if you disagree with that, then I guess this point isn’t valid, but a man of Mr. Mathers caliber, that has lived up to his name for over 15 years, has my trust.

My second point is Em’s body language throughout the entire song. Eminem was not having any fun on stage, and looked borderline depressed all throughout his return to Slim Shady anthem. Not only that but around the :50 mark of the video, it looks like to me Eminem looks over to Rick Rubin on the turntables as if to say “Why don’t I hear myself?”. I could be wrong, but that’s the way it looked to me. And throughout the whole song it seemed like Em was just trying to strength through it. And when you make it to the end of the video and see Em give a peace sign to the crowd, it is clear as day that he was not happy with what just happened. All of this was enough for me to feel like there was at least SOMETHING out of Eminem’s power during this performance.

And my third and final point is that EMINEM DID NOT NEED TO LIP SYNC THIS SONG. This song is an elementary flow for Eminem and is not challenging to him at all. Not only that, but we all know that Em is good live. He has preformed songs way higher in difficulty level many times. For instance, “Rap God” which he performed the very next day at the Youtube Music Awards. “Survival” which he preformed the same night on SNL and no one is questioning the authenticity of. Or, the very same song, “Berzerk”, on the MTV European Music Awards. Eminem did not need to lip sync this performance, so why would he?

At the end of the day, I’m not saying I’m 100% right. I’m just saying that after all of the evidence I have provided, I don’t think it’s very likely at all the Em lip synced this performance. But what do you think, eh?

If you would like to hear the performances I had mentioned click the links below:
Berzerk (SNL)
Survival (SNL)
Rap God (YTMA)
Berzerk (EMAs) (Crappy video, but shows off authenticity)
