Aubrey Graham, better known as Drake, is sitting comfortably on the upper echelon of the rap game. The polarizing nature of the amount of love and hate he gets is overwhelming, yet understandable. Drake is most definitely a very talented artist and, with the help from his friend and producer extraordinaire, Noah “40” Shebib, he has been able to create a sound that appeals to millions.
I am normally not one to be too overly critical about artists’ lyrics, however, it would be impossible to ignore the elephant in the room. Sometimes Drake includes some lyrics in his verses that demand an explanation. Over the past couple of years, I have come across some lyrics from Drake songs that have either made me scratch my head or burst out laughing. I guess you could probably compile a list with a similar concept for virtually any rapper, but it probably would not include lyrics as funny as these:
“Off a cup of C.J Gibson, man I’m faded off the brown,
And I’m easily influenced by the niggas I’m around.”
– From “4 My Town (Play Ball)” by Birdman Feat. Drake and Lil Wayne
Semi-clever first line, but I cannot believe anyone would ever openly admit that they are easily influenced by their peers, especially Drake. I have never been able to understand this.
“The one that I needed was Courtney from Hooters on Peachtree.
I’ve always been feeling like she was that piece to complete me.”
– From “From Time” by Drake
According to Drake, strippers and Hooters girls are deserving of all the romanticism available in the world.
“She just wanna run over my feelings,
Like she drinking and driving in an 18 wheeler,
And I’d allow her. Talk about pussy power.”
– From “Connect” by Drake
Oh.
“I want your hot love and emotion, endlessly.”
– From “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake
What exactly is “hot love?” Not sure I would want whatever it is in an amount referred to as endlessly. That also goes for the generalized term of “emotion” that Drake refers to.
“Yeah, and if you gotta leave for work,
I’ll be right here in the same bed that you left me in”
– From “In the Morning” by J. Cole Feat. Drake
A man who stays in bed all day waiting for his girl to come back from a hard day’s work? That’s what every woman wants right?
“REMEMBA? MO’FUCKA! WORST!”
– From “Worst Behaviour” by Drake
Wait, what?!
“I used to go to the stables and get those kids to bet me
And I would always ride the stallions whenever she let me”
– From “In the Morning” by J. Cole Feat. Drake
Is it just me or is Drake explaining his love for ass by telling an anecdote of watching horses’ asses as a kid?
Kendrick admitted in the song -The Art of Peer Pressure- how his friends influenced him to do things he wouldn’t do also. I guess his entire song is “Suspect”. -_________-
actually is HIGH, LOVE and EMOTION, so…
That sounds even stupider, so…
this was horrible. I think it was made to be funny and it was a miss. I am sure the writer can do better than this, this was just lazy. He should have put an order in for a chicken *for a chicken*.
