DJ Premier Defends HIS Top 25 List

Lol. This is crazy. So the list that we make which is our opinion is always subject to scrutiny. I suppose when you are an artist with clout such as DJ Premier, fans would expect to see high profile names make his Top 25 Albums of 2010 list. But people, Premier is making this list based on what HE feels is the top albums of 2010. Not you. Remember that. It is also based on HIS criteria. And I have to applaud Premier for keeping it real and not selling out to top mainstream artists just because they are heavy weights in this game. Now, that said, the albums left off were great albums but that isn’t the point. Premier had his grading criteria and based on that criteria and what he listens for, they did not make the cut. Other albums were simply better in his opinion. That is not saying that the ones left off were garbage but truth be told, I would rather see a list like his versus a list created by Rap Radar which was 100% political. I love Nicki Minaj but she should not have been on anyone’s top 10 list. Based on sales, we could talk. Her target audience was not hip-hop fans. I’m sorry. Anyway, my speech is over. Here is what Premier had to say to defend his honor.

I TRIED MY BEST TO DO TOP 20 AND I COULD NOT DO IT….THERE WERE SO MANY INDEPENDENT RELEASES THAT SPANKED THE MAJOR LABELS WHEN IT CAME TO HOW I JUDGE HIP HOP MUSIC…..FOR ALL OF YOU SHALLOW MINDED FOLK, I JUDGE HIP HOP BASED ON ORIGINALITY, STYLE, IF I CAN LISTEN TO THE WHOLE LP FROM INTRO TO OUTRO, ARE THE BEATS GOOD, ARE THE LYRICS WORTH LISTENING TO, DOES IT REPRESENT THE GHETTO IN ANY TYPE OF WAY FOR THE RAW AND HARDCORE AUDIENCE (WHICH INCLUDES ME) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY DOES IT MEET MY EXPECTATIONS FOR WHAT I KNOW THAT AN ARTIST SHOULD DELIVER SINCE I DO SPEND MY MONEY AND I AM A FAN, SO I SET A HIGH BAR ON THE ARTISTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING ME HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY DELIVER….I PUT MYSELF IN THAT SAME BOX WHICH IS WHY I STILL REMAIN CONSISTENT IN MY 40′S…..JAY-Z IS STILL RUNNIN’ THIS RAP SHIT BECAUSE HE KNOWS HOW THE GAME GOES…..Y’ALL BETTER KEEP UP…..HATE ME NOW FOR BEING HONEST………ONE……..p

BIG SHOUT TO MR. WALT WHOM I DISCUSSED ABOUT THIS BEFORE I EVEN STARTED MY LIST…ANOTHER TRUE HONEST OPINIONATED MAN
