Lagos based lyricist Boogey returns to the forefront after a brief hiatus from releasing music. His last releases were in February of this year which includes his album “Nouveau Niveau” and the “Tito Mboweni” freestyle. His newest project is a 6 track EP titled “Never Enough” which also serves as the second collaboration between the rapper and producer CHx (Charlie X) with the first being TINAA (This Is Not An Acronym) collaboration mixtape which was released in 2015.
Musically CHx crafts a wide variety of soundscapes ranging from experimental hip-hop, Afro-pop, trap and even dancehall (“Queen”). On the lyrical side of things, Boogey delivers his usual deft lyricism with more focus on storytelling and a running theme of being somewhat inadequate enough to put things right in the world. It’s short but sure has something for everyone from the groovy “Lazarus”, the anthemic opener “Never Enough” to the RnB stylings on “The universe is a big fat baby”
Like the artwork, which depicts the duo as two superheroes looking down upon a burning city the general idea expressed is partly one of self-insufficiency despite the effort to “save the world”. Never Enough is available for purchase and streaming on all digital platforms via this link.
