Big Sean ran into a big brick wall on this track with Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. As per usual, this one will not see the light of day on the album thanks to a sample clearance issue which seems to plague the industry. Funkmaster Flex got the leak on this one (updated to the CDQ version) and if it wasn’t for Twitter flipping the fuck out over Kendrick’s verse, I would have ignored it until later. But alas, that was not meant to be so here we are. But damn man, can Jay Electronica get any love? What say you? Is Kendrick’s verse that dope to blow up Twitter and the world? Take a listen to the track below.
Listen/Download: Big Sean-Control(HOF) (ft. Kendrick Lamar & Jay Electronica)
This is good for hip-hop. Too many MC’s have gone unchallenged when making claims about how great they are and this has lead to complacency in the rap game. This is about as old school as you can get. Back in the day having to prove yourself to hip-hop community was part of the territory and wasn’t as big deal as it is today. This will only make cats step it up and expose those that don’t belong in the rap game at all.
It would great to get a round table discussion of this track and the current state of rap music. This could potentially mark a pivotal point in the rebirth of rap music. Plus this track was straight disrespectful. Kendrick is ready for a war, but I have the feeling this will be a one sided affair.
We shot one. Look for it hopefully later tonight.
Disrespectful? Not really, he is telling the entire rap community (some by name) that he is at the top of the hill and is challenging anyone to say different. People want to turn this into a diss track when it simply isn’t.
Really?! Any MC that doesn’t take offence must be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
You must have missed the part where Kendrick says “I got love for you but this is hip-hop.” That’s a challenge not a diss, any MC seeing that as offensive has some insecurity issues.
Please don’t quote lyrics out of context. Go on, finish the verse.
If you see it as a diss then that’s on you. The DEHH crew already put their two cents on this topic and they all agreed that it was not a diss. Anyone that paid attention and understood the entire verse can see that its just a challenge not meant to insult anyone.
Dope track!!!
Let me just say that Kendrick is the reason this track is another body for the graveyard, but Jay held the track still so Kendrick could slaughter it. Straight murder. Yea Big Sean was the lookout he did alright. Jay went hard as always, and I was just lost in Kendrick’s verse. When the song first came on though, I was already thinking to skip ahead past Big Sean’s verse, but decided not to. That’s it though this track is a hot one.
